Young Couple Killed In Jurong Car Accident.

The family thought the 6am call to their home was a prank.

But when Ms Yvonne Lin's mother picked up the phone, it was heartbreak.

Ms Lin, 25, and her boyfriend Mr Raymond Ng, 25, were both killed in a horrific car crash along Jurong Town Hall Road early on Saturday morning.

The couple, who had been dating for five years, had planned to marry next year, on 09-09-09.

They had selected a five-room flat in Punggol just four days earlier, on Tuesday.

With the life they had planned together shattered in a single crash, all their families could do was to place them together in death.

Their wakes are being held together at a pavilion near Mr Ng's Choa Chu Kang HDB home.

The families also plan to place their ashes side by side at Bright Hill Columbarium.

Recalling the fateful early morning phone call, Ms Lin's brother-in-law said: "When the phone rang, we thought it was a prank call & who would call so early. (But) it was the police."

He said Ms Lin's mother had woken as usual at 5am to exercise, only to see that her daughter's bed was still empty.

Ms Lin and her mum slept in the same bedroom.

The two had moved into the Bukit Batok home of Ms Lin's 32-year-old sister and her husband in 2000, and helped look after the couple's two daughters, aged 4 and 2.

Ms Lin's brother-in-law, 33, who declined to be named, said the close-knit family was devastated by the news.

"It was traumatic, everyone is in grief. Who would have expected this," he said.

He is still trying to figure out how to tell his young daughters that their "Ah-Yi" (auntie) is gone.

Youngest child

Ms Lin was the youngest of three children. Her brother, 35, is also married.

The brother-in-law said Mr Ng frequently came to their home for dinner. "Easily three or four times a week," he said.

In Ms Lin's bedroom were giant soft toys like Winnie the Pooh and Minnie Mouse, some given by Mr Ng.

On her dressing room table and mirror were pictures of the happy couple.

Ms Lin's mother, Madam Tan, 53, told Lianhe Wanbao: "I already saw him as my son-in-law, and his family also saw my girl as their daughter-in-law."

The couple met in 2003, when Mr Ng saw Ms Lin on bus service 190 and asked for her number.

About two years ago, they got a dog together called Muffin.

A year ago, they bought a car together & the same white car involved in the crash.

Said Madam Tan: "They already planned to get married on 09-09-09. They said it was a good sign, that they would be together for a long, long time.

"They already started preparing for marriage. We never expected them to be gone just like that."

She told Shin Min Daily News that she had spoken to her daughter on the phone at midnight, while the couple were at a friend's birthday party.

Ms Lin said she was tired and Mr Ng was working the morning shift the next day, so they were going home soon.

Said Madam Tan: "But when I woke up at 5am and didn't see her, and I couldn't get through to both their handphones, I knew in my heart that something had happened."

A police spokesman said the accident happened along Jurong Town Hall Road towards Bukit Batok around 1.45am.

Mr Ng, the driver, is believed to have lost control of the car, mounted the centre road divider and crashed onto a tree.

Thrown out

Ms Lin, an auditor, was thrown out of the vehicle, while Mr Ng, a police corporal with the K9 dog unit, was trapped in the wreckage and had to be extricated.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

At the mortuary yesterday morning, Mr Ng's mother wept and collapsed after claiming his body, and had to be carried by her relatives.

Madam Tan said her daughter's face was badly injured as she was thrown out of the car.

At the wake, Mr Ng's family declined to be interviewed.

Madam Tan told Lianhe Wanbao she planned to cremate her daughter with her favourite Louis Vuitton bag & a gift from Mr Ng this year & and necklace.

She said: "Although they are both gone, I hope they can be together forever in the next world."
